Moab Pt. 2

As promised, this is the sequel to my Moab trip. I am going to try and not make it into a trilogy so be patient with me! This was a unique trip indeed though. From tents being blown away and dispersing the contents through an empty field, to flat tires, losing trailers, and freezing winds, we had a fantastic time! Nothing was more humbling then waking up at 4:30 though. And even more so, to see the beautiful sky! You could see every single star!! Having lived in LA for 2 years where the only lights you see are the planes circling and waiting to land, or the helicopters searching for the one responsible for the recent murder it was a welcome change. God is truly great, and he has given a fantastically diverse and breathtaking world in which to live! Enjoy!

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting!!!

I LOVE this shot! I tried so hard to get it, and it turned out way better than I could have hoped for! The first try, I scared the bird and it flew into the sun-no picture. The second, it flew down the cliff-still no picture. The third time- BINGO!!!

The Sun Breaks

I know it's a lot, forgive me! But there are so many good shots from such a beautiful location! I still have a lot of shots I want to include from other locations, but that will have to wait for a different post!

Moab!

Well, in light of Rachel used-to-be-Condon-but-now-is-Young's warning about doing at least one post a week, I thought I better get on that. Even if it means skipping studying for my biology test...way over rated.

So, about 2 weeks ago I took a small trip to Moab with my photography class. It was awesome! A small scale version of one of my life long dreams--to hike in the mountains and take pictures! So, these are some of my good shots. Being as I am a beginner, and just getting the ropes you think for taking almost 1000 pictures, I would have some better shots...

MOAB!!!

So, enough with the dramatic intro!
The following pictures were some of my favorites from day 1, more will follow, I don't want to overwhelm you! The first few are from our hike to Delicate Arch, then the remainders are of the arch itself. Click on the pic for a better view.

Above and below is Kelli and she is the one responsible for me being the mess that I am in photography. She gives me professional advice from time to time, and makes a mean sandwich. The pictures that follow are of Delicate Arch, perhaps the most famous

Anyone There?!?

So I was wondering if anyone was reading this. I know it's new, but how do I know if anyone is reading this? I feel like I'm talking to myself. If there is anyone out there, please make contact with me. Let me know you're there. I've got 4 visits on my blog, by the end of the month I hope for 10!

So today I had the chance to go to a mosque for my intro to Islam class, it's in Salt Lake. It was a great experience! I learned a lot. There was something inspiring to see people from a completely different faith all united there to worship who they think God is. It's a shame that they are so misunderstood. I wish people could know and understand more about their fascinating culture. The hardest part for me was that there were so many great photo opportunities there, but I didn't think it would be respectful to photograph their services. Next time I am going to get permission because it really was awesome! Afterward, the imam gave a brief segment of Islam. Below are some pictures I took, none really turned out good. Forgive my finger, it was with my digital camera and I keep forgetting it has a wide angle, and I didn't want to use flash so a few are kinda blurry.

I Gave In

Well, I decided to give in and create a blog. I've heard good things about blogging, so I'll give it a whirl and we'll see how I like it. Be patient as I attempt to figure out how the heck this thing works. For the record, I'm Sean McGrath. I am studying at Arabic/Middle Eastern Studies at BYU. I am from Washington State, and just got back from a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Obviously, I am LDS. It permeates my every action and has helped form me into who I am today. I came from a very blessed childhood with wonderful parents and amazing siblings. I've also had some outstanding friends who helped shape me into the mess that I am today. I'm also currently working on developing my photography skills. I have a lot of work to do. Expect some posts devoted to my photo exploits!
